Our view on systems and process change
Studies have repeatedly demonstrated that organisations usually (not sometimes, usually) fail to achieve the business benefits intended when they invest in new systems and processes.
We see 3 phases in a successful implementation of new systems and processes:
- Launch: the new systems are installed
- Improve: typically the business performance is improving. People are doing what they were doing before but somewhat more efficiently
- Transform and Exploit: the new systems and processes enable the business to operate quite differently with significant commercial advantages.
The business cases for these projects are normally based on Transform and Exploit; many organisations often fail to get much beyond Launch. The benefit is only realised by bringing about change, which is all about leadership and behaviour.
The Metafore approach:
- Focuses on creating changes in behaviour to exploit the investment in systems and processes
- Addresses the management actions necessary to support the change and eliminate barriers to performance.
