Our view on performance management
Organisations invest vast amounts of time and money in processes designed to improve business performance: target setting, management reporting, appraisals, incentives, learning & development, and so on.
All of these have a place.
But what organisations are really trying to achieve is a high-performance culture. What they usually get is a business-as-usual culture, with a lot of valuable time absorbed in performance management activities.
At the heart of a high performance culture is the passion and belief of the people. We believe that the leadership needs to create an environment of:
- Alignment: people believe in what they are doing rather than just following rules
- Authenticity: individuals bring their true selves to work rather than act out a process
- Empowerment: each individual takes responsibility rather than relying solely on management and processes.
The Metafore approach involves:
- Working with business leadership to create the high performance culture and put in place the necessary structures, processes and communications
- Supporting line managers and staff in stores, offices and factories to help them take responsibility for improving performance.
This approach:
- Generates behaviours and actions to create sustained improvement in performance
- Addresses the management actions necessary to support the teams and to eliminate barriers to performance.
